New Aesthetic System

The headline of the official announcement.

Aesthetics are indeed better across most subjects and prompt understanding is better too.

Prepositions (words that show direction, time, place, location, spatial relationship) such as "above" and "within" are taken more seriously.

Just take a look at these images created with V5.2 to get an idea of the quality that we're working with now:

stars and galaxies around, illustrated, simple, featured on pixiv, muted colors with minimalism, kuzmina, a hazy memory --ar 16:9

The announcement says that --stylize has been fixed so that it is stronger. This looks to be the case:

New "Zoom Out" Feature

All image upscales now come with Zoom buttons:

  • [Zoom Out 1.5x] [Zoom Out 2x] pulls the camera out and fills in details on all sides
  • [Make Square] adds details on two sides to make a non-square image into a square one
  • [Custom Zoom] (advanced) gives you a popup text box that allows you to change the prompt as you zoom out as well as the aspect ratio or precise zoom. To change aspect ratio set --zoom 1 then change the --ar to your target. This option will try to remove black bars on your previous images.
Official Announcement

The most popular feature: use custom zoom to create interesting scenarios that you can turn into animations.

New "High Variation Mode"

This mode is available after you've upscaled an image. You can also toggle this in settings.

Notice the new buttons Vary (Strong) and Vary (Subtle):

Notice the differences in pose and environment. The compostion and character remain the same.

New /shorten command

This lets you 'analyze' a prompt and get suggestions on what words might not be doing anything and which ones might be key.

Here's our guide on Analyzing prompts with Midjourney 's /shorten command.

The best part of this feature is hidden under a "Show Details" button. It's a prompt analyzer with scores for different tokens.

New --weird parameter

Yes, this feature came out a few days after the V5.2 announcement, but we're going to include here anyways. This makes your images look more weird & edgy.

It goes from --weird 0 to --weird 1000 (actually 3000 but David Holz doesn't recommend it).

Check out: Guide to Midjourney's --weird.

--weird 3000
