100+ Incredible Prompts to Try in Midjourney V4 (Many Styles and Industries)

Midjourney V4 took 9 months to train and has finally been released. After trying it for only 30 minutes, I was blown away by the quality it delivers across a huge spectrum of styles and themes.

What does V4 do better? Pretty much everything. And I'm not just comparing it to previous versions. I'm comparing it to all AI image generators.

Below I’ve selected the styles that impressed me the most, and included exact prompts for each one so you can try them out.

1. Logo Design

For the first time, AI can produce cohesive and effective logo designs for your business.

Try adding these phrases to your prompts:

• Names of graphic designers: Paul Rand / Saul Bass / Massimo Vignelli
• Simple / flat / vector
• Kitschy / elegant / minimal

2. Web Design & App Design

Is AI coming for User Interface designers next? With V4, it certainly looks like it. While V3 didn’t have a clear idea of what interfaces look like, V4 definitely does.

The model tends towards making things “painterly” rather than vector-like. You can try adding the following to your prompts to make them cleaner:

• Vector
• User Interface
• Adobe Illustrator / Figma
• Dribbble / Behance

3. Pixel Art

I never found the older versions of Midjourney to be good at pixel art, but Midjourney V4 blows me away. I haven’t been able to achieve anything close by running Stable Diffusion on my own either. With some artist touchups, these would look incredible as game backgrounds.

You can achieve different styles of pixel art by adding these to your prompts:

• 8 bit pixel art / 16 bit pixel art / 32 bit pixel art
  • yes, varying these up will change the style of the image. At 32 bit, we noticed it moves away from "pixel art" and towards a regular illustration.
• Sega Dreamcast / SNES / Atari
• Isometric

4. Isometric Art

The isometric art coming out of V4 is absolutely stunning, even when barely prompted. Try the following prompt additions:

• isometric
• low-poly
• box cutout
• made in blender
• Materials: matte clay

5. Character Design

This is a very broad topic. There are so many different types of character design, and so many different styles.

You could be looking for designs for:

• A mascot for your brand
• Character designs for your animation or video game
• Character designs for your DnD campaign

You might also be looking for a number of different styles:

• 2D / 3D
• Rendering
• Concept art with many variants
• Character turnaround sheet to show the character at different angels

6. Photographs of People

V4 crosses the divide between “hey that could almost be a real photo” to “holy cow that’s not a real photo?”

We’ve noticed that the model excels at creating vintage style photographs. Here are some phrases to add to your prompts to tune them towards a realistic vintage style:

• polaroid
• vintage photography
• film photography
• fuji color film

Cue the beginning of naturalistic interaction between people in AI generated images.

Verbs like “arguing”, “fighting”, “hugging” yield interesting results. But the less dynamic the pose is the more realistic the person comes out. Still, I noticed a huge improvement in the side and back profiles of people, compared to V3.

It looks like crazy hands and fingers are here to stay though.

7. Movie Posters

V4 is great at recognizing references to pretty much…everything. In the example above, it looks like V3 model has some details of the visual atmosphere of the movie No Country for Old Men, but in V4 it looks like the model actually has information about the characters.

This is amazing! How much does the model know about how many different creative works out there?

Some things you can test right now:

• Generate movie posters for books without existing movies
• Generate movie posters for existing movies and see how well V4 does!

8. T-shirt Design

You can easily create bold and striking T-shirt graphics that are perfect for print-on-demand services.

9. Patterns

Not only does V4 create beautiful patterns that you can turn into backgrounds for any project (not to mention, wallpaper at home), there are a couple of tricks you can use to create consistent patterns:

• Repeating – This enforces a repeating infinite pattern pretty much always
• Radial repeating - makes a pattern repeat in a circle (like flower petals)

10. Papercraft

I can't believe it's not paper! Papercraft is a testament to how good Midjourney is at with materials and lighting now.

11. Tattoo Design

You can design tattoos in a variety of styles. I've noticed that Midjourney will often place the tattoo on a human body. If you don't want this add --no human to your prompts.

12. Anime & Studio Ghibli

It's an open secret that anime is one of the most popular uses of AI image generation today. NovelAI is another very popular anime generator.

Midjourney has an anime mode called Niji Journey aka Niji Mode. It uses an entirely different model from the normal Midjourney model.

Use the '--niji' command anywhere in your prompt to switch over to Niji Mode.

13. Architecture

Rumor has it that employees of Zaha Hadid Architects (company of the late Zaha Hadid, Pritzker-Prize winning starchitect) are using Midjourney in their everyday work and prompting with "style of Zaha Hadid".

AI will be transformative in the architecture and interior design industries in both the design and ideation phase and the presentation to clients.

14. Fashion Design

Fashion is another industry that will be transformed with the incorporation of AI tools. Enhance the creativity of your fashion designs with:

• Moodboards
• Concept designs for clothes and shoes

15. Film

Making screenshots from mashups and funny films that don't exist is a favorite pastime of AI Reddit and Twitter users.

Try using the following in your prompts:
